Our first security defense is simple, important but often overlooked - we make sure every single connection between your computer or wireless device and the ePerfect Project servers is encrypted, using 265 bit securty encryption which is roughly twice as strong as many banks use today. Unlike many other web-based services that provide encryption as an option, with ePerfect Project, this level of encryption and security is compulsory - there is simply no way to access ePerfect Project without at least 256bit encryption.
The metadata is stored in a Microsoft SQL Database, which replicates itself to a separate server, so that in the event of a disaster, we could switch to the other database server. The data in this database is backed up nightly to tape in a separate datacentre.
Whilst this arrangement provides excellent protection against disasters that affect entire servers, it doesn’t necessarily make it straightforward to recover individual data spaces or parts of spaces. Recovering accidentally-deleted data from backup is possible, but time consuming (more so the longer the data has been deleted for), and not a service we offer in all circumstances. Recovering the metadata for an individual data space without affecting other data spaces is even more time-consuming, and may in some circumstances not be possible (though we could always recover the entire system onto a standby server and then let the user copy over data/metadata by hand as required).
